Meer over de achtergrond van de cartoons...

Op,
   http://cagle.msnbc.com/news/blog/MuhammadColumn.asp
zegt ene Anders Raahauge van de Jyllands-Posten (een rechtse, racistische
krant in Denemarken, overigens),
We were provoked by the fact that a Danish author of children's books
couldn't find any illustrators for his planned, decidedly non-polemic
book on the prophet. Twelve cartoonists dared.
en,
The newspaper ran the Muhammad drawings as part of an article about
self-censorship in the press, noting that even with a free press
defined by law, there are other constraints regarding what can or
   can't be published.

Op 10 december 2005 (!) meldt,
   http://blog.newspaperindex.com/2005/12/10/un-to-investigate-jyllands-posten-racism
dat de Verenigde Naties het racisme van deze krant gaan onderzoeken...
   UN to Investigate Jyllands-Posten 'Racism'
   Saturday December 10th 2005, 10:43 pm
Responding to a complaint by the Organization of Islamic Conferences (OIC)
      http://www.oic-oci.org
over twelve caricatures of the prophet Muhammad published in the
Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten last September, Louise Arbour -
United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights - has appointed two
UN experts on racism to carry out a detailed investigation into what
Arbour characterizes as a 'disrespect for belief.'
Why did Jyllands-Posten publish the cartoons? The Copenhagen Post
explains: 'Jyllands-Posten called for and printed the cartoons by
various Danish illustrators, after reports that artists were refusing
to illustrate works about Islam, out of fear of fundamendalist retribution.
The newspaper said it printed the cartoons as a test of whether Muslim
fundamentalists had begun affecting the freedom of expression in Denmark.'

Kijk, dit soort dingen leest men niet in de Nederlandse media. Bij ons
krijgt eerst de Deense iman Ahmad Abu Laban de schuld, daarna de
Moslimbroederschap en vervolgens weer Iran en Syrie. Men doet alles om
zover mogelijk van de bron te komen... en daarbij is 1 schuldige niet
voldoende.
