Het is puur toeval, natuurlijk, maar ik krijg zojuist de onderstaande mail
binnen. Het toont een kant van het Vaticaan die weinigen kennen.

Kennelijk mag ik slapen in het zomerbed van de Paus...   :-)

Dear students and promovendi,

I would like to bring to your attention the Vatican Observatory 8th summer
school in Observational Astronomy and Astrophysics, to be held in Castel
Gandolfo (near Rome), Italy, from June 16 to July 15 2001.

More information on the school and the application process can be found at

But be quick, the applications are due December 15th!

The school this year will focus on stellar remnants. There are lectures in the
morning, with special seminars occasionally in the evenings, and the rest of
the time is free to enjoy yourself or pursue special "educational"
projects. The school brings together 20-25 students from all over the world,
usually at least half from developing countries¸ in an incredible setting (the
Pope's summer residence).
