Subject: [EANTH-L] Please Sign and Share! Letter to US Army Corps to Rescisd Evacuation of Oceti Sakowin Water Protectors Camp
Dear EANTHers,
Some fellow anthropologists are collecting signatures on a letter to ask the US Army Corps to rescind the evacuation order for the Oceti Sakowin water protectors camp in North Dakota. Although the Army Corps has said that they will not forcibly remove the water protectors from the camps, the order nevertheless provides justification for the Morton County and North Dakota police to do so. Thousands of veterans have "deployed" to the camps to offer protection, but they need all the help they can get. The order goes into effect on Monday and the authors of the letter plan to deliver it by hand to the Army Corps on that day. They are hoping to get 10,000 signatures by then, so please sign and share it as much as possible!
"As concerned anthropologists, archaeologists, heritage specialists, historians, and tribal members, we absolutely, unequivocally, and unreservedly support the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe in their efforts to protect sacred sites, ancestral burial grounds, and water near the planned Dakota Access Pipeline project areas. By continuing eviction and evacuation orders, and refusing to cooperate and collaborate with the Standing Rock protesters, ACOE is willfully acting against the expert opinion of the professionals listed below."
