Eurotrubbel: Parallele munt zou een oplossing kunnen zijn

Dit vind ik eigenlijk geen slechte oplossing. Behouden de Eurocraten hun
Euro zodat ze verder Unietje kunnen spelen en zich dus koest houden terwijl
de burger z'n eigen munt heeft en zich niets van dat geklier in Brussel/
Bonn gelegen behoeft te laten liggen. Moeten de fictieve en de echte munt
weer geen vaste omrekeningskoers hebben...

Overigens is de Euro omhoog geschoten tijdens dat geklooi vorige week. Op
dit moment schiet de Euro ongekend woest heen en weer.

Italian party launches campaign to revive lira

The Italian Northern League party launched a campaign to revive the lira
at an 85,000-strong rally of its supporters on Sunday. According to
reports, the party, which holds ministerial posts in the Italian
government, called for a resurgence of the lira as a "parallel currency"
to the euro, which would remain the currency of the state budget, tourism
and foreign trade.

Under Italian law, a referendum must be held if half a million signatures
are collected. Many economists say the idea is bizarre. Speaking at a
European Central Bank conference in Frankfurt, Stanford professor Ronald
McKinnon said there is some authority to the view that maybe Italy should
have its own currency. "Even if we know it would all go wrong", he said
according to the Telegraph.

In June, Italy became the first country to face disciplinary action under
the EU's adjusted stability pact because of a growing budget deficit.
