1) 75 Convention members support EU Referendum

At the last two-day convention meeting on April 24, the 75th convention
member signed the ERC-initiated demand for an EU constitutional
referendum. In an official contribution to the convention debate the
signatories recommend to the Inter-Governmental Conference that the
draft of the European Constitution has to be approved by National
Parliaments, the European Parliament AND the citizens of Europe in
binding referendums.

You will find the current list of signatories
(six signatories are missing) at

2) Growing ERC-activities in 8 countries

Activities in order to promote European Referendum Campaign in FIN,
DK, NL, B, LU, E, F and D there are growing. The latest country which
joined was Finland, where the ERC was launched in mid April. In May
there will be a meeting in Paris with all the organizations and
individuals who want to promote the ERC. Germany is getting started
with collecting signatures and a ERC promotion bus. In the Netherlands
the number of activists increased significantly.

3.) Strong support for EU Referendum in Germany

Like in other countries, the support for an EU constitutional
Referendum is growing. VIPs from all big parties spoke in favour
of such a referendum in Germany. The red/green alliance is pro
referendum. The Liberals will even launch an initiative in the
Bundestag to change the Constitution to allow a ballot. CSU leader
Edmund Stoiber repeated his demand for "asking the people". Jürgen
Rüttgers - vice party chief of the Christian Democrats (CDU) - demands
a referendum and there is even a pro-referendum decision by the board
of the CDU Saarland, which is supported by Saarland Prime Minister
Peter Müller. After all a question may be posed: Could it be possible
that there will be no referendum, if obviously all political actors as
well as 80% of the German population are in favour of it?
