Beste,

Dries Boele

..................................................

"Europe beyond economics. Civil Europe as a work in progress and new
community."

Join a 6 day study group in the French Alps to discuss ideas and share
information. To think through your future as a European in a forum, which
draws on philosophy, sociology, cultural studies, literature and the arts.
We want to focus on the possibility of a `European dream', the need of a
European identity and the opportunities and hurdles for a further
development of a real European union that is more than a market. Are they
feasible options? What does `Europe' mean to us? Europe is still a work in
progress, a challenge for those who want to be co-creators of our common
future.

This is an opportunity to invest time, brainpower and effort in a
stimulating environment, where people can explore and share their own
domains of interest, and benefit from a synergy of ideas and initiatives.
And to meet Europeans from all parts of the continent!

With the aim of creating a foundation for ongoing initiatives in a widening
European network (the internet community, follow up seminars, papers) the
group will discuss themes around and related to the following:

. How do Europe and current personal identity relate?
. What legitimacy for Europe?
. Why Europe? What do we want from it?
. Desirability and feasibility of a public domain on a European scale
. A European civil society
. The appeal of Europe: Reflecting the extraordinary in Europe
. What do we have in common as Europeans?
. Challenge of Civil Europe as an inspiration and model
