Lijsters,

Rik.

>>Hiya peoples,
>>
>>Here is some news from todays issue of dutch newspaper "Trouw":
>>
>>Dutch Secretary of State for Cultural Affairs, Rick Van der Ploeg
>>(PvdA-Labourparty), is going to ask dutch broadcaster NOS to take care of
>>more songs in dutch language in future festivals. He is not happy with the
>>fact that all songs that compete for being the dutch entry in Jerusalem
are
>>in English.
>>Member of Parliament Boris Dittrich (D66-Social Liberal) says it is a
>>"bloody shame". (Those words are not translated). He had asked Van der
>>Ploeg to stand up for the Dutch and Frysian language.
>>
>>Frysian languase was this year for the first time competing for a place in
>>the national final. The alderman for cultural affairs of the city of
>>Leeuwarden, Arno Brok, did send the frysian tango "Rosa Montes" to the
>>selection committee. He tought that if English would be possible, than at
>>least also the second language of the Netherlands should be possible. In
>>this song -that did not make it- the Frysian chansonnier Douwe Heeringa
>>tels about the sad faith of Arganinian Rosa who is seeking for asilence
but
>>ends up in prostitution.
>>
>>Boris Dittrich is afraid that dutch language and identy lost because of
>>commercial reasons. His opinion is that "Dutch is a language that we can
>>present ourselves with, also in the international area." He also said that
>>he always watched the songfestival, but prefers to call it
>>"liedjesfestival", and that it is a bloody shame we are not sending a
>>beautifull Dutch song. "In the past we had also beautifull entries with
>>Corry Brokken, Lenny Kuhr and Ruth Jaccott. And in the seventies we were
>>able to send some entries in English, but what did we get? 'When you take
a
>>shower, when you pick a flower, sing ding a dong...' Does that make you
>>happy? D66 is a pro-European party, but nevertheless we think we may be
>>proud on our own identity."
>>
>>According to the NOS, did the selectioncommittee, with chairman Willem van
>>Beusekom, only looked to the quality of the songs, was language no
>>selectioncriterium and did commercial reasons play no role at all.
However,
>>NOS-spokesman Fred de Vries did confirm that the record-industry was
>>represented in the -further secret- selection committee. He stated that in
>>the end, only one thing is important: that the selected song could get a
>>high score. Furthermore a large majority of all songs that were send to
the
>>committee were in English. He assured that if evryone is a bit patient,
we
>>will find out that the level of the songs are much better than Whenn you
>>pick a Flower.....
>>
>>
>>Greetings to all,
