<p style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-bottom: 20px; padding-left: 0px; line-height: 19px; ">Op 23 september vindt aan de Vrije Universiteit een congres plaats onder de titel ‘Waar komen we vandaan? Anderhalve eeuw evolutiedebat in protestants-christelijk Nederland’. Het is een historisch congres met een actuele spits. Centraal staat de vraag hoe christenen in het verleden hebben gedacht over de <a href="http://www.protestant.nl/encyclopedie/themas/wetenschap/evolutietheorie" target="_blank" style="color: rgb(0, 116, 174); ">evolutietheorie</a> . In een slotdiscussie zal vanuit de geschiedenis worden gereflecteerd op de actuele discussies over de verhouding tussen schepping en evolutie.</p>
<p style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-bottom: 20px; padding-left: 0px; line-height: 19px; "><a href="http://www.pthu.nl/idpage.aspx?lIntNavId=247&lIntEntityId=7&lStrAction=fld_txt_idpagePublicatie" target="_blank" style="color: rgb(0, 116, 174); "><em style="font-style: italic; ">Prof. dr. Gijsbert van den Brink</em></a>, een van de deelnemers aan het slotforum, formuleerde vooruitlopend op discussie de volgende stelling: ‘Zoals onder meer B.B. Warfield al inzag, valt acceptatie van de  evolutietheorie goed te combineren met orthodox-christelijk geloof.’</p>
<p style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-bottom: 20px; padding-left: 0px; line-height: 19px; ">Elders vat hij de visie van deze Benjamin Warfield (1851-1921), hoogleraar theologie aan Princeton Theological Seminary, als volgt samen: ‘Warfield was ervan overtuigd dat er geen noodzakelijke tegenstelling bestaat tussen christelijk geloof en evolutie, ‘mits we maar geen al te extreme vorm van evolutie onderschrijven.’ Met dat laatste bedoelde Warfield, dat vastgehouden moest worden aan een sturing van het hele proces door Gods voorzienigheid en aan Gods incidenteel bovennatuurlijk ingrijpen.</p>
<p style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-bottom: 20px; padding-left: 0px; line-height: 19px; ">Uiteindelijk achtte hij dat laatste echter niet per se noodzakelijk om de komst van de mens te verklaren: ook dat zou een kwestie kunnen zijn van een (door God geleide) sprongsgewijze mutatie die het meest geschikt bleek in de toenmalige omgeving. Theologisch gezien meende Warfield zich met deze vorm van evolutionisme in de voetsporen van <a href="http://www.protestant.nl/encyclopedie/themas/kerk/calvijn-johannes-2005" target="_blank" style="color: rgb(0, 116, 174); ">Calvijn</a> te bewegen, wiens scheppingsleer hij doorvertaalde in termen van een evolutionair schema.’</p>

... hoe je in dit land kunt opklimmen op een maatschappelijke ladder op grond van de veronderstelling dat er een god is, die overigens in het geheel niet bestaat, en daarin kunt afstuderen op het hoogste "wetenschappelijk??" niveau.</p>
<p style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-bottom: 20px; padding-left: 0px; line-height: 19px; ">Hoe vervolgens de wetenschap en mensheid zich dienen te buigen, en dit voor een godsgeloof, waarvan de vermeende grondlegger niet aantoonbaar is, en dat voor de 'gelovigen' die elk mogelijk bewijs tegen het bestaan van hun god, mogelijk te kunnen blijven maken. </p>
<p style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-bottom: 20px; padding-left: 0px; line-height: 19px; ">Men een congres gaat organiseren onder de titel "Waar komen we vandaan?", waarbij in werkelijkheid, en in het geheel, die vraag helemaal niet op de agenda staat, maar juist hoe (verder) te struisvogelen om het gedrag 'geloven' te kunnen blijven rechtvaardigen, dit tegen (w)elk wetenschappelijk bewijs ook, in.  Niets wijst op het werkelijk willen beantwoorden van de vraag 'Waar komen we vandaan'.</p>
