OBAMA PLEDGES TO ‘ELIMINATE’ THREAT POSED BY IRAN

YESTERDAY Hillary Clinton revealed that she will formally end her
campaign for the White House on Saturday, and throw her full support
behind her Democratic rival Barack Obama.

She said in a letter: ‘I have said throughout the campaign that I
would strongly support Senator Obama if he were the Democratic Party’s
nominee, and I intend to deliver on that promise.’

Clinton, who was viewed as a sure thing at the start of the campaign,
has been destroyed by the desire of the working class in the US for
‘change’.

This desire has been driven on by a situation where millions of
workers wages and jobs have been cut, and millions more have had their
homes repossessed, while at the same time hundreds of billions of
dollars have been spent in a bloody and failed attempt by the big
bully, US imperialism, to enslave the Iraqi people and steal their
oil.

This desire for change excluded another four years of a Clinton as
president, since the Clinton NAFTA free trade deal saw millions of
American workers jobs exported, and much of the New Deal safety net
dismantled.

Clinton’s bid was stymied from the start, as millions showed their
desire for change, by themselves changing and sweeping aside old
prejudices as they voted for the man who will be the first black US
president.

However, major sections of the US ruing class also appreciated that
the US needed a change of leadership, something that would have to
look very radical and spectacularly different, a black president of
the US, not part of any ruling political dynasty, if the interests of
US imperialism which were badly battered under Bush, were to be better
served.

They hope to have a completely new broom that can be used to sweep
around the world to try to resolve some of the intractable problems
that the US ruling class have created for themselves in the Middle
East and the Gulf in particular.

This is the role that has been marked out for Barack Obama, who has
already said that he is ready to speak to the Iranian and Syrian
leaderships to try to make a deal for the American ruling class.
However the foundations of US foreign policy will remain unchanged.

Obama, a few days ago spoke to the representatives of the Zionist
lobby. He insisted that Jerusalem must remain the undivided capital of
Israel, and said he would work to ‘eliminate’ the threat posed by
Iran.

The Israel prime Minister Olmert, whose forces recently invaded the
Lebanon commented: ‘His appearance was very impressive. His words on
Jerusalem were very moving.’

Obama declared an ‘unshakeable commitment’ to Israeli security,
adding: ‘I will always keep the threat of military action on the table
to defend our security and our ally, Israel’.

He continued that talks with Iran would take place at ‘a time and
place of my choosing, if and only if it can advance the interests of
the United States’, adding ‘I will do everything in my power to
prevent Iran obtaining a nuclear weapon, everything in my power to
prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon, everything,’ he
repeated.

For good measure he concluded: ‘Let there be no doubt: I will always
keep the threat of military action on the table to defend our security
and our ally, Israel. Do not be confused.’

The Zionists were not confused as they heard him declare: ‘Any
agreement with the Palestinian people must preserve Israel’s identity
as a Jewish state, with secure, recognised, defensible borders, and
Jerusalem will remain the capital of Israel and must remain
undivided.’ The applause was rapturous.

Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat remarked ‘Senator Obama has closed
all doors to peace.’

The Palestinian leadership have been shocked by Obama unmasking
himself to reveal a Zionist.

This is nothing to the shock and anger that tens of millions of US
workers will feel when they find out that a President Obama cannot
deliver any of the jobs, wages, pensions, and healthcare that he has
been promising.

His betrayal will be the catalyst for the US working class to break
with the Democrats and launch a workers party to take the road of the
struggle for socialism in the US.
