Rookverbod een groot succes in Italie

Na Californie hoor ik ook in Italie slechts positieve reacties op het rookverbod in openbare plaatsen, nu een jaar oud. En wederom, zelfs de meeste rokers zelf zijn enthousiast. En ook hier blijkt ook de horeca er niet onder te leiden, in tegendeel:

According to figures presented by the Health Ministry, nine out of 10 people are in favour of the ban and 87.3% say it is well respected. "The Italian people have shown a high sense of civil responsibility," said Francesco Schittulli, the president of Italy's Anti-cancer League (LILT) .

"The majority have respected the smoking ban well, above all in public places like bars and restaurants, where it was feared it would not be tolerated." .

What's more, the forecast collapse in custom at bars and restaurants never occurred .

Most Italians (83%) say they go to bars and restaurants just as often as they did before the ban, while 9.6% actually go more frequently now these places are smoke free. "

Uiteraard is het aantal rokers en het aantal gerookte sigaretten ook afgenomen, alhoewel dat wat mij betreft geen doel hoeft te zijn. Slechts de belastinginkomsten zijn lager. Ahhhhh. Hebben de tegenstanders ook nog een argumentje... :-)
