grand jury
A body of 16-23 citizens who listen to evidence of criminal
allegations, which
is presented by the prosecutors, and determine whether there is
probable
cause to believe an individual committed an offense. See also

She declined to comment about the indictments because she has not
seen the evidence presented to the grand jury. Yet she said the case
highlights one of her campaign platforms: A professional and ethical
district attorney must charge only what can be proved beyond a
reasonable doubt.

That Sanders and his fellow indicted staffers have tried to lay the
blame at the door of District Attorney Terence Hallinan's office is
particularly "unseemly and disingenuous," according to one of the
officers.
"Al Murray was the lead prosecutor for the grand jury hearings," said
the cop. "Murray is probably the best friend this department has.
He's honest and low-key. He wouldn't have taken the case if there
wasn't something going on."

Het bovenstaande lijkt me dus in overeenstemming met wat ik dacht (en
heb geschreven).

Overigens heeft die DA (Hallinan) een flink ruige reputatie :)).
