Ik pik het laatste persbericht, eentje van Reuters, er maar even uit:

 But traders said the euro, which has shed nearly a quarter of its
 value against the dollar over the past 16 months, remains highly
 vulnerable to further declines as long as central banks avoid acting
 to prop up the beleaguered currency.

 'Unless the European Central Bank decides to try to support the
 euro, or show somehow that there's a reason to buy it, it's going to
 continue to go down,' said Mike Malpede, currency strategist at
 Refco Group.

 The view that the ECB is standing aside was reinforced on Thursday
 when a senior German government source told Reuters he did not
 expect leading central banks to intervene ahead of the U.S.
 Presidential elections in November.


 Nou, dat weten we dan ook weer. Ben benieuwd wat de Euro dan nog waard
 zal zijn. Het is natuurlijk godgeklaagd dat de Euro-politici de uitslag
 van de Amerikaanse verkiezingen afwachten...

 In de Telegraaf van vandaag overigens een interview met Duisenberg. Die
 schuift eerst de schuld af op anderen en ziet vervolgens de toekomst
 zonnig tegemoet (net zoals bij de invoering van de Euro). Verder meldt
 hij dat hij zich meer verwant voelt met de VVD dan met de PvdA en dat
 hij -ondanks zijn hoge salaris- inmiddels AOW heeft aangevraagd.

 Een mens moet toch wat...
